The Stories Behind the Money Men

June 5, 2025, 10:30-11:30 am

Presenter: Lesley Mace, Senior Outreach Advisor
Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, Birmingham Branch
Abraham Lincoln, Andrew Jackson and Benjamin Franklin are pictured on currency, but what do their lives teach about the history of money? This session will blend history and economics as it explores Franklin’s role in the development of paper money, how the life of Abraham Lincoln can illustrate the characteristics of money, and the story of Andrew Jackson and the Second Bank of the United States. All participants will receive the publications Benjamin Franklin and the Birth of a Paper Money Economy and The Second Bank of the United States: A Chapter in the History of Central Banking.
