Education: B.A., M.P.A from the University of Alabama and a M.Ed. (Secondary Social Studies), and M.A. Ed. (Educational Leadership) from the University of Alabama-Birmingham.
Recognition: I am the recipient of the University of Alabama Excellence in Teaching Social Studies Award 2013 and Recognition Award in 2014. I have been named the Alabama Council of Social Studies Outstanding Social Studies Teacher of the Year in 2013, State of Alabama Secondary District VI Teacher of the Year 2009, Hoover City Schools Teacher of the Year 2009, Spain Park Teacher of the Year 2009, State of Alabama Economics Teacher of the Year 2008, and Teacher of the Year, High School Level: John Morton Excellence in the Teaching of Economics Award by GATE (Global Association of Teachers of Economics) together with the (National) Council on Economic Education, October 2008. I was selected in 2011 for The Classroom Economist program by the Federal Reserve Bank Atlanta and earned the credential as Master Teacher of Economics 2010.
Publications: My lesson plan publications include Teaching Financial Crises: Monetary Policy and the Recent Financial Crisis and Understanding Financial Markets 2007-2009, The Trial of Monty Terry, The Fed’s Passport to Globalization, Public Policy and the Press, and Don’t Be Discouraged. Served as the SME (subject matter expert) authoring the online course in regular curriculum economics for the State of Alabama ACCESS program, 2009.
Experience: I have 28 years of teaching experience and two years of administrative experience as Instructional Leader at Spain Park High School 2012-2014.Teaching experience includes AP Government, AP Macroeconomics, economics, and government at the high school level and through ACCESS, as well as at UAB teaching Introduction to Macroeconomics and Economics for Educators.
Professional Development: I have received professional development grants through the Gilder Lehrman Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Council on Economic Education, Bill of Rights Institute, C-Span, and the New York Stock Exchange.
