THE ALABAMA ECONOMICS CHALLENGE
With support of the Alabama State Department of Education,
Council for Economic Education,  Medical Properties Trust, and
The Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta-Birmingham Branch.
  • The Alabama Economics Challenge encourages students to apply their economics knowledge as they work in teams to win state, regional and national awards.     Click here to register online teams. ​

  • January 4, 2027 Online registration begins.
  • Teachers may enter an unlimited number of teams in the online competition. There is no fee to participate.
  • February 9 to March 17 Alabama Econ Challenge Online Competition.
  • March 19, 2027 - Grades 6-8 Announcement of top online State Champion. This team is the middle school State Champion. Each team member and the teacher sponsor of the Middle School State Champion receives $50. 
  • March 19, 2027 - Grades 9-12 Announcement of top online High School Teams to be invited to the Alabama High School State Championship.
  • Alabama High School State Championship will be held March 31, 2027, at Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta-Birmingham Branch. Each team member and the teacher sponsor of the Alabama State Champion in the Adam Smith and David Ricardo divisions receives $150. The State Champion in each division advances to the National Semi-Finals.
  • The 2027 National Economics Challenge (NEC): Semi-Finals will consist of forty-five questions covering microeconomics, macroeconomics, international and current events and will be held online April 2027.
  • The top national semi-final teams in each High School division will be invited to the National Economics Challenge Finals.
