Alabama Local Rules
The following rules are designed to aid in our administrative functions and to ensure that the students understand the value of portfolio diversification. Please read the rules carefully to be sure you comply and to be sure your student teams will not be penalized by becoming ineligible for prizes.
National Rules: National rules for the Stock Market Game can be found by clicking the “Rules of the Game” option on the welcome page of each portfolio and as a menu item on the teacher (advisor) administrative site.
Requirements for Participation in the Alabama SMG:
· Familiarity with your computer and the Internet
Teacher Workshops: SMG teacher workshops will occur in various locations in Alabama throughout the year. Attendance at an SMG workshop is highly recommended, but not required.
You Must Register a Team to have Access to the Teacher Support Center for the Duration of the 10-week Game: The SMG has a wealth of teacher materials (lesson plans, research, databases, PowerPoint presentations, standards-based activities and stock-related links) available for teachers.
Teacher Promo Game: All teachers may play the free teacher promo game prior to the start of the SMG game session. The SMG Teacher Promo game is a non-competitive and abbreviated version of the competitive 10-week SMG game. Teachers will have limited access to the Teacher Resource Center for the duration of the Teacher Promo game.
Team Fees/Team Price:
· $15.00 per team: 1- 4 teams per teacher.
· $13.50 (10% discount): 5 or more teams per teacher.
· Payment must be received by the end of Week Six (6).

Registration and Payment Deadline: The registration fee for the SMG program entitles you to the following services:
· Team IDs and passwords
· SMG support materials and guides
· Online and phone support with the SMG coordinator.
· Teacher Workshops (where available)
PLEASE NOTE: The registration deadline is the end of Week Two (2) of the game. Once the game has begun, registration will not be accepted past end of Week Two (2) of the game.
Number of Students per Team:
· One (1) – Five (5) students per team for non-scholarship teams
· Three (3) – Five (5) students per team for teams on scholarship
Teams will be disqualified from the competition and ineligible for prizes if it is determined that there are more than Five (5) students on that team.
Geographic Regions: In the Alabama SMG, schools are divided into Regions based on geographic location. These regions are: North and South. For a listing of the counties in the Northern and Southern regions Click Here
Team ID’s: If you have not received your IDs and passwords within two days after you perform the pre-registration, please contact the SMG Coordinator immediately.
Billing and Payment: All teams will be billed at the completion of Week Four (4) of the SMG. Payments may be made by check or purchase order. Payments must be received within 30 days after billing. Stock Market Game Advisors with outstanding balances or owing payments will not be eligible for competitions and contests associated with the Stock Market Game program until the outstanding debt is paid. Teams Must be Registered Under Teacher Name: All student teams must be registered under the name of the teacher/advisor guiding them in the classroom. All PARTICIPATING teachers must register online under their own names so each will receive his/her own full set of materials and periodic mailings
Scholarships: Scholarships for the Alabama Stock Market Game are based on need. Schools with at least 40% free/reduced lunch participation, qualify for SMG scholarships. All scholarship teams must have a minimum of three student team members.
All scholarship teams are subject to all trading and prize eligibility deadlines. Scholarship teams that have requested and been approved for teams, but have not entered a trade by the end of Week Four (4), will be billed at the regular team registration fee. If you have special circumstances or questions, contact the ACEE Program Director or call 205-726-4073. Scholarship requests are valid for Fall and Spring games during one school year.
Home-Schooled or Youth Organization Teams: Home-Schooled or youth organization teams must register for the upper level (9-12) if that team includes even one member who is in the upper grade level.
Deleting Teams: If you determine that you have enrolled more teams than you need and would like to delete teams, please contact us before the end of Week Four (4) to ensure that you will not be billed for teams that you are not using. Teams cannot be deleted if a trade has been executed.
Trading Deadline: Teams must execute a trade by the end of Week Five (5) to be eligible for awards and prizes. A team may continue to trade even if the team misses the prize eligibility date.
Minimum Transactions: Students must complete at least three successful transactions (includes buying and selling) during the course of the game to be eligible for prizes. This ensures that teams actively participate. Teams not meeting the minimum three transactions will be disqualified and ineligible for prizes.
Real Time Pricing: Real time pricing in the Alabama Stock Market Game means that stock trades conducted during market hours (8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.) will receive actual trading prices for that time. Trades conducted after markets are closed will receive the opening prices for the next day. These trades will be processed on the evening of the trade and show up in the portfolio the following day.
No Short Selling: Short selling is not allowed in the Alabama Stock Market Game.
Students must make the trades and trading decisions. Teacher/Advisors may assist students in their research of stocks. However, all team decisions and transactions must be made by the student members only. Teams will be disqualified from the competition and ineligible for prizes if it is determined that their teacher made buying and selling decisions or completed such transactions.
